Biriyani is a most awaited Venkat Prabhu Flick with Karthi released in Chrismas season this year, it’s a comedy thriller with a Venkat Prabhu style of treatment. After the success of Mankatha with Ajith kumar, hype and expectation were high on this movie. But Venkat Prabhu disappoints big time. This movie can be considered as his weakest film till date. 

There is nothing new and different stuff in this movie. All the seen before kind of scences and situations and the suspense element is not so shocking or interesting. First half of the movie is wasted for plot development and songs were forcefully inserted, comedy did not work and most of the things were repeat version of typical Venkat Prabhu movies. There is nothing really happens in first half, which could have been told in 10 mins. Movie picks from second half and turns to athriller mode and it had its moment till climax portions. Suspense element was big letdown.

All the actors acted well. Casting was good. Camera work was also apt. this being Yuvan’s 100^th movie songs were very average. Background score was good. Lack of good writing was evident and felt like this script was written in hurry just to en cash the dates and make some quick money by releasing it in a festival season.

DRISHYAM (2013) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW

FAMILY THRILLER!!!

Drishyam is Director Jeethu Joseph’s fourth venture after hugely successful memories with Pritviraj. His debut as director was the investigation thriller Detective which had interesting plot but execution was not up to the mark. But he improved drastically after each film and Drishyam can be considered as his best till date. His three films are thrillers and he delivers best in this genre. After Memories now he is considered one of leading and very promising among new comers.

Drishyam gives much needed relief to Mohanlal too. After not so success in last few movies he delivers best performance with help of good script and dialogues. The movie did not had any big hype which usually comes with the Mohanlal and the trailers did not reveal story plot, which really helped the film. Family thriller is a genre which is very rare and gives completely fresh feeling for a Malayalam audience.

First half of the movie takes its time to develop characters and the plot for the second half. It had some genuine comic scenes and link for the second half. After interval movie takes turn and becomes thriller and there many situations will amaze you. And you keep guessing the plot and unveiling of the story thrills you to the core.

Hats of to writer and director Jeethu Joseph, his hard work can be seen throughout the movie. He had good support from camera department handled by Sujith and nice apt background score by Anil Johnson. As usual Mohanlal delivers solid performance along with Meena. Shajon shocks us with his carrer best role. Others did their part well. The only negative part of the movie was casting of some minor characters, otherwise it is a near to perfect thriller.

BEST 5 MALAYALAM MOVIES OF 2011

The year 2011 saw below 100 prominent releases and quality wise also the number of good cinema were very less, however picking best 5 movie was not so difficult task. 




TRAFFIC  one of the best thrillers of the recent time, kudos to the writer duo Bobby and Sanjay and director Rajesh Pillai who revived the trend and the new generation tag become the hot property after this movies huge BO success.

SALT AND PEPPER Aashiq Abu's first commercial sucess holding same New Gen tag and a light hearted RomCom with comedy. smart performances from lead cast especially Lal. Already remakes are made in all the languages.

INDIAN RUPEE  Ranjith at his best again with this sattirical comedy drama, one of best performance from Pritvi raj. Nice simple Script.

PRANAYAM Blessy's one of the best after the magical Thanmatra, matured performance from Mohanlal, jayaprada and anupam kher. it is a slow emotional romantic drama.

MANIKYAKALLU It is another light simple emotional drama with tinge of comedy from M Mohanan. Neat performances from lead cast. easily one of the best from 2012.

Man of steel is directed by Zack Snyder, who is known for his work in 300, Dawn of the dead and Watchmen. He is known for fantasy/superhero genre movies. Story written by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer. That is evident in the movie for its dark shade. Christopher Nolan is also one of the producers of this movie; expectations were sky high for this reboot of the Superman Series. 

This Superman movie is lot better and bigger than all the previous series and also darker in storyline. Story begins with Krypton episode. Lot of graphics and production done with perfection and origin of superman told in a convincing manner. The battle at the earth was jaw dropping and some super stunts will amaze you. Climax action sequences with special effects were superb.

Henry Cavill as new superman did his job perfectly. Micheal Shannon as General Zod steals the show. Russel Crow appears as the father of superman had nothing to do much. All the other actors did their part well.The movie excelled in the special effect department, unbelievable sequences right from the beginning. Production, costumes and art department complimented well. This the best work of Zack snyder apart from 300. As always Hans Zimmer delivers super BGM’s.

In the Era of Super hero movies, Man of steel stand out for its simple and interesting storyline and stunning visual effects, with neat performances from lead cast. Wait for the sequels.
