HIGHWAY (2014) HINDI MUSIC REVIEW

Highway is a bollywood road movie directed by Imtaiz ali after the success of Rockstar. it is second project with A. R Rahman. Rockstar music was widely appriciated and the the combination of Imtaiz and Rahman created huge expectation for the music.

Rahman's previuos projects in hindi Jab tak hai jaan got mixed reviews and critics were rating it just average album. but as usual he bounce back with Raanjhnaa which was success. same happend with last 2 tamil albums Kadal got mixed reviews where as Maryaan's music was appreciated. Ruling the Indian music industry for over 2 decades and being the first option for each and every movie maker A R Rahman delivers some interesting tunes in the album Highway.

1) Pathaka guddi : the first track of album, its a energetic soofi music with some soothing flute interludes with some folk touch here and there. Nooran sisters rocked it. it has some typical Rahmanic touch (the last hummings part was awesome). Anyways its not his best kind of song still far better than so called bollywood number which you get to hear nowadyas.

2) Maahive : Second track is sung by Rahman himself, its a romantic number in Rahman style. Catches up with you instantly. with beautiful lyrics it takes you to another world. You will play it in loop and going to addicted to this track.

3) Tu kuja:another soofi with folkish song sung superbly by Sunidhi, Rahman does in his style. lyrics by Irshad kamil is another highlight. will appeal Rahman fans instantly.

4) Heera : sung by Shwetha pandit, is a smooth melodiuos track.it 's also has some folk touch. Violins bits are good.but not all near to the Rahman's standard.

5) Kahaan hoon main :Sung by Jonita Gandhi, its a Jazz based song which has numerous Piano elements in it. a melodiuos song with bit complex structure which will grow on repititive hearing.

6) Wanna mash up : sung by Suvi Suresh is a party song with rap and heavy electronic sound to it. usually this kind of party song by Rahman draws crticism. though its not a great track let see how its been used in movie and how situation suits to it.

7) Sooha saha : sung by debutatnt singer Aliya Bhatt herself and impresses with her voice, like most other songs of this album this is also a folk mixed melody song. Flute bits were nice to ears.

8) Pathaka guddi Male version : sung by Rahman himself is more westernized version and his voice gives a special magic touch to it and sound lot better than the female version.

Overall its not the best from Rahman still far better from the so called good music from bollywood music. its a mixture of melody and folk sound, backed with some good lyrics. Pick of the album Maahi Ve by Rahman himself.

KADAL (2013) TAMIL MUSIC REVIEW

 KADAL (2013) TAMIL MUSIC REVIEW
by The Vibrations Music Blog

Director : Mani ratnam
Music : A R Rahman
Lyrics : Vairamuthu, Madan Karky, Aryan dinesh

Whenever ace director Mani ratnam teams up with A R Rahman there is huge expectation and they prooved time and again that they are the best team so far, except for the box office failure Raavan.
This time for KADAL A R Rahman experiments with wide range of genres for each song.

Songs are very much genre specific and fusion elements are minimal. that can be felt with recent Rahman Music, that clearly indicates how mature he became through the years, just like the wine getting better and better with age.

The album starts with the song

Adiye sung by sid sriram, is a jazz song the genre very rarely used in indian films, song is enhanced by the very distinct voice of sid and tune is very much unconventional. its not a catchy song but gets better with each hearing.

Anbin Vaasale is a christian devotional song with chorus, sung by haricharan instantly catchs up your mind and stays with you, lyrics is top notch. the song prooves A R Rahman 's range with diverse genre.

Chitirai nila : is lullaby sung by Vijay Yesudas son of great Yesudas, repeat hearing just memerises you. beautiful orchestrtion especialy the voilin bits and the chorus.

Elai Keechan sung the mozart of madras himself is a catchy folk song, hummable and typical composed in ARR style.

Magudi Magudi is a club song, easily the weakest song of the lot, depends heavily on the visualisation. nothing great in composition or lyrics. some portion of the song reminds the boom boom robo da song from enthiran ( ROBOT).

Moongil Thottam : it is a melodious duet sung beautifully by abhay and harini boosted by nice lyrics. this song will stay for longer time.

Nenjukulle is also a melodiuos song with simple orchestration but with rahman stamp all over it.

Verdict : Buy this gem :)
